I actually think I've seen them. Or at the very least someone's been creative and came up with that idea and then created one.... I just have to remember where I've seen it.....
I don't know about the tripod one, but the telescoping ones exist- they are primarily utilized as guide sticks for the visually impaired. My sister has a kick-ass one. The old one she had just pulled apart at joints like a tent pole, but man was that a hazard- you take the band off of it, and it would spring together in about 3 seconds, usually hitting someone... (NEVER give a legally blind person a self-assembling 3-foot long rod. Trust me on this.) But the telescoping ones are far better. Condenses down to a manageable size, about the length of your forearm. Pretty cool.
