Suppose you've got a first (or some other low ordinal number) date. Your date arrives and hands you a packet of rose seeds and says "May we this night plant the seeds of a beautiful budding romance."
Is this:
a) Cheesey
b) Amazingly romantic
c) The actions of a deranged lunatic
What if your date had said "May this bud of love be a brilliant flower when next we meet. This bud's for you." instead?

Date: 2002-12-15 08:30 pm (UTC)if I said it to someone, I would mark it "cheesy" and possibly "lunatic".
The second one is much better, in my opinion. The buffer of humor is an undeniable power. If she laughs, she's hooked.
Just like fiction makes more of an impact on most people than nonfiction, humor is the false face that we all want to accept.

Date: 2002-12-15 09:36 pm (UTC)part 2: d) humorously romantic. Not spectacularly amazing, but good enough
to fall for :)
uhmmm
Date: 2002-12-15 09:37 pm (UTC)That'd make me uncomfortable. I'd probably laugh, but..uncomfortably. I mean, how do you react to that? yes, way too cheesy.
The second one, with a flower.. depending on delivery I'd most likely laugh and think it was sweet. I mean, its a joke, it gives you a way to react.. no pressure. And something to think about later.. instead of something requiring immediate reaction, know what I mean?
*grins* *shrugs* The overly cheesy scares me unless it's a joke. But that could be me. Just makes me wonder if we're on the same page and such, esp on an early date :) Sorry if I'm not much help :)

Date: 2002-12-15 10:49 pm (UTC)Cheeeesy.
You have to admit that is pretty damned cheese. BUT... If she can't handle a certain amount of cheese, then she is most certainly NOT the woman for you, my friend. Trust me on this. *laughs*
And as for part the second, any Puke and Snot reference thrown into a date is always appreciated. But watch out for your magaga, know what I mean?
*hugs*
Also, as a postscript... does this mean you have some kind of 'budding' romance on the horizon? And you DIDN'T TELL ME?! You DOG! ;)
Details, I want DETAILS.
I'm calling you. Soon. Be prepared with a good story. Or at least an excuse.

Date: 2002-12-16 06:01 pm (UTC)Unless they bring you some potting soil and are actually helping you plant the thing, but it's too much for a first date. That's like for maybe a third or fourth.
