NNNNNNGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

It's quarter to five in the morning. 15-25 minutes ago, I woke up to an odd noise. After a little thinking, I realized it was a fire alarm. I managed to find my bathrobe, grabbed my keys, and headed outside, knocking on residents' doors as I went. I got outside and it had been snowing lightly for the past 2 hours or so, putting an end to about three weeks of Indian Summer.

Since I was wearing only a bathrobe, my feet were FUCKING FREEZING. Holy Zarquon! It was all I could do to squelch the pain long enough to make sure people stayed away from the building, which fortunately was not on fire. Not sure where or why it went off yet.

To top things off, here's my night up to that point:

Until midnight, I was trying to do homework with a nonfunctioning brain. No progress. Blah.
Midnight. Decide to go to bed. Instead read stuff on the web.
12:45. Go to bed. Figure I'll be out like a light. Brain keeps going through worthless stuff.
1:20. Disturbed by resident noises in the hall, see what's going on. The old RA and a resident had just been wrestling. Converse with residents while trying to keep volume down.
1:45. Go back to bed. Still can't fall asleep.
2:30. Finally fall asleep.
4:30. Goddess smegging Zarquon damnit!

So I'm understandably not in the happiest mental place.

When I was a senior in highschool and August was still going to CU, I used (unbeknownst to my mother) to spend about three nights a week sleeping at his dorm. Without fail, one or two out of those three nights - and many nights when I wasn't there, the fire alarm would go off in the middle of the night. This lead to frequent occurences of us being woken up at three or four am to that horrible *horrible* noise, scrambling around to grab and pull on as much of our clothing as we could find, and stumble outside in the often freezing-cold and snow in our barefeet, coatless, etc...

Not one of these times was there ever a fire.

A few months ago I was talking to some of my RA friends, and come to find out that the year August was living in Sewell, one of the RAs there had a crush on a firefighter. A firefighter who just happened to work the middle-of-the-night shift...

(Needless to say, by the time I got to CU, I'd completely lost faith in the dorm fire alarm system. Shana and I just got really good at hiding out in our rooms and plugging our ears.)

Was August, by chance, in Sewall? Last year, some bright individual decided it would be a good idea to pull the fire alarm as an RA and a cop were walking down the hall. Brains, I tell you!

Of course, three or four years ago, 52 people died at Duke when the fire alarm went off at 4 in the morning and they figured it was a drill.

Yah, he lived in Sewall, which was where this psycho RA girl lived, the year she was pulling the fire alarm every night. This would've been...about three years ago. The 99-00 school year. Actually, I think it was right after the Duke fire, because I remember there being a big push to get kids to pay attention to the fire alarms, and there were signs posted up all around Sewell about people getting killed because they thought it was a false alarm. Which is *why* we kept going outside, night after night, false alarm after false alarm. :p
