Munchkins, Ho!

This is probably only of interest to those of you who went to New Vista, but below this cut tag lies 50K of classmates from my 5th grade year. (Because Uni Hill's funky and creative, they often stick two grades together. The picture contains about half fifth graders and half fourth graders.)




Familiar faces for New Vistans, others marked by *** so you can follow along:

Middle row: The guy with a hat and wide open mouth is Evan Salem, who was at Brendan and Allison's wedding. He recently had chemo.
Bottom row: Third from left, in hat and glasses, is Mike George. Second from right in the solid blue sweatshirt is Ben Leibig.

I managed to look better in most of my group school pictures than I did in the beginning-of-school portraits. Probably because I wasn't trying to be serious and do all the posing my mom told me to do for picture day. Or maybe because you see how silly everyone else looked at that age.

First and foremost, you'll burn in hell for showing this to the world. That out of the way...I think I still have a pic somewhere from that class while we were at outdoor ed. Everybody up on rocks and all that. I was also trying to name everybody, but I came up short. Mostly on the middle row. I don't suppose you can remember anybody? I can pick out more than I thought I could, and can sometimes remember obscure details, but it's flakey at best. (for instance, the dude next to you was named sean, i think. I recall talking to him about stephen king books once...funny what you remember, huh?)

Let's see... without cheating... in the back row we have Arthur, Evan (or his twin brother, whose name I can't remember), Aaron, Michael, Merideth, Melissa, Dane, Sean, Trevor. Middle row: Kush, forget, forget, Julia, Evan, forget, forget, forget. Front row: Amrbose, forget, Mike, Liam, Jesse (?), Kyle (?), Ben, Chai (or his brother Richard?). Notice how I forgot all of the 4th Grade girls?

After cheating with the next year's yearbook, Evan's brother's name is Justin. Second row is Kush, Danielle, Heather, Julia, Evan, unknown, unknown, Emily (?). Front row, Ambrose, Merideth, Mike, Liam, Jesse, Kial (odd spelling), Ben, Chai (I think, though they might have left town by then). I'm not sure where a 1990-91 yearbook is, even though both my brother and I should have one.

I was pretty good friends with Justin and Evan and I'm fairly certain that is Justin in the picture. Who I don't see that I thought was in the class was another friend of mine, Farid Tabian. I still talk to those guys once every two or three years...

Your memory is much better than mine, the only other one I can confirm is the last girl in the middle row who is indeed Emily. You ever what happened to some of these folks?

I don't remember anyone named Farid in our class or Jeff's class... maybe he was there the next year. Other than the folks who went to New Vista and Evan Salem, I've heard fuck all about everyone else in the picture. Oh, except Melissa... she was an RA in Baker last year... I think she just graduated majoring in History/Sociology. Through the newspaper I learned that Erik Hauk-Whittaker (who was in Jeff's class, I think) recently graduated from VMI... (Uni Hill to a military acadamy... scary). Josh Marable, who was in Jeff/Linda's class the year before, recently got arrested for drunk driving and running away from the cops... Arjune Mirchandani (Kush's brother) is finishing/just finished CS at CU... I'd love to know what Nathanial Greenberg is doing these days...

As for the New Vista folks, Dane got back from a year in Chile last week. He totally loved it, has a girlfriend down there, and all that. Ben's still working in NYC. Dunno if he has a boyfriend now or not.
