New Year's Eve

Boulder folks: I'm thinking of hosting a movie marathon on New Year's Eve, starting around 8. Planned fare includes Metropolis, Dark City, and something else on that theme; not sure what yet. Suggestions welcome. If you'd like to come, please let me know so I can (a) give directions and (b) let you know if plans change.

I'm planning on being OUT of some sort on New Year's Eve, though to be honest, I don't know what that means yet. If you happen to not watch Metropolis, I'd be interested in watching it sometime. (I assume it is the more recent animated version?)

Oh, I went to see the "silent German classic" at IFS last year...
I fell asleep. I tried really really hard to stay awake, but to no avail... I think the part I was awake during was interesting, however, my memory is mixed with dream. I haven't seen the animated version yet though. Sounds like it is time to queue it up on Netflix!

I'm not sure which coffee shop. I'll try Bookends first (I like the natural light and the attached bookstore), but then if there aren't any places to sit, I'll try Trident. I think I'll probably be there around 2 or 2:30 for a couple hours. If you're planning on stopping by or being there already, feel free to call me... I think I e-mailed you my cellamaphone number.

Ah. I'll probably be at work until 5, so I wouldn't be downtown until 6. I wasn't aware of the animated Metropolis, though it may only be tangentially related.

I wanted to see it at IFS (and the Boulder Theater) last year, but I was on duty :-(

Ah, you are correct: "Some have compared Tezuka's Metropolis to Fritz Lang's 1926 Expressionist Masterpiece of the same name. Actually, Tezuka claimed not to have seen the German Director's pre-World War 2 film, although he admits to seeing a still photograph of the Robot Woman from Lang's production, and that inspired him to write his story. Rintaro's animated adaptation of Tezuka's work bares some resemblance to Lang's movie, but it makes a radical departure in several areas."

I had heard from someone that the anime was based on the classic, but this states otherwise. Either way, the anime received very complimentary reviews so I'm still interested.

I tend to hang out in coffee shops a lot so maybe we'll catch each other next time. Have fun working!
