Many moons ago, I promised [livejournal.com profile] mirumototusbasa that I'd make her a few tapes and CDs to accompany her on road trips. I asked her what kind of music she liked, and she said "Everything but Christian and Country." "Aha!" I said. "I'll make you a CD of good Country and one of good Christian." After I'd recorded one side of a tape, my Cube had issues, so the project got put on hold. Finally, after much slack, "It's in the mail." In the interest of increasing awareness of good music (and because I didn't have a chance to print out jewel case inserts), I have included the playlists below. Now that I've created the playlists, anyone want a CD? This is honestly kick ass Country and Christian music, as well as a couple discs of neat stuff. (Incidentally, The Strange Album may not be the best thing to listen to while driving.)

Lord God Almighty let me tell the news
my head got wet in midnight dew
great God i been down on my bended knees
talking to a man from galilee
michael spoke and he sound so sweet
i thought i heard the shuffle of angels' feet
He put one hand upon my head
great God Almighty let me tell you what He said

[bridge:]
go tell that lonesome liar
go tell that midnight rider
tell the gamblin', ramblin' backslider
tell them God Almighty gonna cut 'em down

[chorus:]
you might run on for a long time
run on, ducking and dodging
run on, children, for a long time
let me tell you God Almighty gonna cut you down

you might throw your rock and hide your head
work in the dark with your fellow men
sure as God made you rich and poor
you're gonna reap just what you sow

[chorus] x3

some people go to church just to signify
trying to make a date with a neighbor's wife
brother let me tell you just as sure as you're born
you better leave that woman alone

[bridge]
[chorus] x8

Pena
Her little head clinking
Like uh barrel of red velvet balls
Full past noise
Treats filled 'er eyes
Turning them yellow like enamel coated tacks
Soft like butter hard not t' pour
Out enjoying the sun while sitting on
Uh turned on waffle iron
Smoke billowing up from between her legs
Made me vomit beautifully
'n crush uh chandelier
Fall on my stomach 'n view her
From uh thousand happened facets
Liquid red salt ran over crystals
I later band-aided the area
Sighed
Oh well it was worth it
Pena pleased but sore from sitting
Chose t' stub 'er toe
'n view the white pulps horribly large
In their red pockets
I'm tired of playing baby," she explained
'n out of uh blue felt box let escape
One yellow butterfly the same size
Its droppings were tiny green phosphorus worms
That moved in tuck 'n rolls that clacked
'n whispered in their confinement
Three little burnt scotch taped windows
Several yards away
Mouths open t' tongues that vibrated
'n lost saliva
Pena exclaimed, "That's the raspberries"

Road trippin’ with my two favorite allies
Fully loaded we got snacks and supplies
It’s time to leave this town
It’s time to steal away
Let’s go get lost
Anywhere in the u.s.a.
Let’s go get lost
Let’s go get lost

Blue you sit so pretty
West of the one
Sparkles light with yellow icing
Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun

These smiling eyes are just a mirror for

So much as come before those battles lost and won
This life is shining more forever in the sun
Now let us check our heads
And let us check the surf
Staying high and dry’s
More trouble than it’s worth
In the sun

Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun

These smiling eyes are just a mirror for

In big sur we take some time to linger on
We three hunky dory’s got our snakefinger on
Now let us drink the stars
It’s time to steal away
Let’s go get lost
Right here in the u.s.a

Blue you sit so pretty
West of the one
Sparkles light with yellow icing
Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun

These smiling eyes are just a mirror for
These smiling eyes are just a mirror for
Your smiling eyes are just a mirror for

Wow, you somehow missed *THE* greatest driving song ever ("Radar Love" by Golden Earring) as well as two other great ones - "Running Down a Dream" by Tom Petty and "Turn the Page" by Metallica (I like their cover better than Bob Seger's original). Other suggestions - Elastica's "Car Song", Jan & Dean's "Little Old Lady from Pasadena" and Sammy Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55".

Ye gods, no. Sammy Hagar should not be remembered. Certainly not for that crappy driving song.

And Trevor, I'd like a copy of your country and christian music cds. Even if I dont' like it, I'll be able to say I gave it a shot before I condemned it to a firey hell.

Excellent! Giving it a shot is all I ask. Send me your snail mail address.

Yay!

Music! Huzzah! Though how I'll print the lists up I don't know. And the way you set up your lj with the sidebat things and all dissagrees with my browser such that I can't see most of the "strange" list, nor whatever's in the red block. Ah, the joys of a severely outdated system.

I took A LOT of flack last week for not knowing who Tom Lehrer was. Anyway, I think I love your taste in music. Could I get a copy of your Christian Music for Heathens and maybe your Road Trippin' one?

YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHO TOM LEHRER IS?!?!?
*grin*
Sorry, I missed out on the flak-giving session apparently, so I just had to slip that in...

(I like people to know who he is for 2 reasons- first, because he is a musical genius, obviously.. but also, I just like to be able to brag about the fact that he knows me by name (he was a professor at UCSC, my alma mater) and greeted me in the halls with "Morning, doll!" on several occasions.)

I do hope that you have sought out some of his music by now, it's fabulous.

I always remember him cuz in the liner notes for the Pollution song he mentions that you can replace the cities (the breakfast garbage we throw out in the bay / they eat as lunch in San Jose) with ones more local (Troy/Perth Amboy) and my dad was working in Perth Amboy at the time.

The song of his I remember tho is the hunting song.

Evolution Control Committee sound familiar... What else have they done?

If there is so much good music about Christianity why is none of it from "Christian" artists?

Just a rhetorical question.
