Tonight marks my annual favorite Saturday of the year -- Pie Night. It's the official opening to the Season of Gluttony. Everyone meets someplace (a Grange hall, for instance). Everybody brings a pie, couples bring two pies. Buying a pie is not allowed, you must make it yourself. Using premade crust is okay, but not ideal. Everyone places their pie on one of several long tables. After a moment of grace, the devouring begins. You take your plate around the room and grab slices of any pies you wish. (Better get to Lehndorff's early, or it'll be gone quick.) You then sit down and eat your plate of pie. You can get it all at once (like I do) or get some, eat some, hear what gems others have found, get some more, eat some more, digest a while. All the while, talk with friends, some of whom you see once a year. Once folks are done eating, clear up the room a little and have the musicians work off the calories jamming and singing folk songs (with practice, this year!). Meanwhile, the kids run off the sugar upstairs with a few baby sitters, who are paid by donation (which also covers fees for hall use, etc.) No alcohol involved, which makes it a great social environment for (recovering) alcoholics, and means people don't get out of control or anything (other than the hyper kids). And when you eat that much pie, you really don't need any calories from beer.

So, why don't you have a Pie Night in your town with your friends? Make it spread like Fight Clubs.

I almost had to miss Pie Night, though. Our RA staff retreat was originally scheduled for the night of 11/9. Then, at the last moment, it was proposed to change to 11/10, but we changed location instead. Which segues nicely...

It was lots of fun. Starting with the drive up to Keystone (I was in the fun car) to some cool staff development activities, to introducing five new people to Lunch Money and playing until 4:30am to late-night nude (me, not her) hot tubbing with Morgan, my cute, giggly, fun buddy RA. And yay for no I-70 traffic on the way home.

And a joke told at Pie Night...
A linguistics teacher tells his class "In Russian, a double negative is a negative. In English, a double negative is a positive. In no language is a double positive a negative."
A student in the back of the class pipes up, "Yeah, right."

And could this (non-alphebetized on the MacOS Classic client) mood list have ONE mood along the lines of "full, stuffed, packed?"
