I don't know if I've talked about my favorite phylum on this journal, but let me state for the record that arthropods are awesome.

Evidence.

Kids science shows were fond of pointing out that you couldn't have an invasion of giant spiders because they would collapse under the weight of their exoskeletons. But a 2.5 meter scorpion is an arachnid that could serve many sci-fi needs.

I had to run away screaming upon reading "giant fossilized claw" -- sorry! Tiny spiders cause me to scream... but I take them outside when I can rather than smush them. We'd get scorpions in the carpet in Florida. Same reaction. Must be some girl gene.

Okay, so I heard on NPR about fossils in New York State indicating the existence of giant 8-feet long sea scorpions during the Paleozoic Era.
