So here I am at #8-206, Littleton, CO 80123.
Having spent most of the past five and a half months at #8-105, Tamara and I decided to shack up fifty feet up and to the left of her previous apartment. I'm not without misgivings about leaving Golden -- I can't walk to the top of a mountain or a body of running water; my hammock is in storage; I'm in anonymous suburban south Jefferson County instead of the old territorial capital; I'm not a stone's throw away from an engineering school (which somehow won 12 games this year). But I wasn't taking advantage of those things anyway, so it seemed silly to rent an apartment as a storage space.
In the last week and a half, we've moved all of Tamara's stuff upstairs (except what she gleefully donated to charity). Almost all of my stuff made it in about three Subaru trips; all I'm missing now is my floor lamp, unicycle, camping water containers, and bookshelf. The lack of a bookshelf means the new apartment is something of a forest of OfficeMax cardboard file boxes, but I have sworn to go through them this weekend. Tamara hates clutter. I come with lots of clutter. We're still working out a middle ground.
The apartment itself is quite nice. On a clear day, we can see Red Rocks from the porch. The kitties love the stairs. The closet is big enough for all of my games, the pieces of my hammock stand, and the Little Tomcat's Room. I got DSL set up with a lot less hassle than the last time. The commute is only five minutes longer, thanks to C-470. And I can still wake up to Democracy Now, thanks to 1390 AM, KGNU's new Denver frequency.
Our furniture currently consists of:
Who says you have to be rich to be well furnished?
Once everything's put away, we'd love to have folks over. The Potluck Tradition got lost at the end of the summer, but I'd love to get it rolling again in the coming new year. And I'm always up for a game night featuring Apples to Apples, Lunch Money, or Gloom. Won't you visit, won't you visit, won't you visit my neighborhood?
And a big shout out to
mlechan for the new icon. Frankly, It's me on so many levels.
