Geek Quotient: Fulfilled
Tuesday, October 9th, 2001 01:30 amForgot to do an entry on Saturday because I was too sleep deprived...
I agreed to cover the office on Friday night, so I spent the time making a Gold funky Scorpion deck. Scorps don't have enough disposable guys to do what I really wanted, so it would've taken a lot of tweaking to make a workable deck. So I decided to opt for a Crane honor cheese deck. Spent a short while making that and headed back to my room to fetch the remaining cards needed that I didn't have in the office (Kakita Rensai, mostly). I then discovered that the Heroes of Rokugan are just too cool not to use. So I changed it from a cheese honor runner (which I wasn't feeling very confident in anyway) into an HoRes deck, which intended to attack, duel, and gain honor. Hit the sack around 2 or 2:30, fell asleep around 4 (yeah. Sleep dep sucks). Got my ass out of bed early to join the other seven players at Dragonfire (which, excepting the previous afternoon, I had been to once since... May?). I managed to rock my first game, my TacLion opponent didn't even get a decent chance to attack. We played again (since every other game was still in progress) and I whooped s'more ass. The deck gained honor much quicker than I expected. I was doing decently during the first multi round, though I made an early tactical error sending the Celestial Dragon on an allied attack rather than saving it for defense, but Dave's "starter and a few boosters" Dragon deck managed to win a few duels and then a big battle, so we couldn't knock him off after 40. My third game was against a different TacLion (I managed to cut him no gold in the multi round) who, unfortunately, got first turn gold. My deck couldn't bust out enough defensive cards, so succame, drawing Torrential Rain as my final card. We played again with the same result, but I did get to 39 honor in six turns before I died (granted, 5 was in the final battle). I was at the losers' table for multi round #2. My opponents were the original TacLion (Brian, for those in the Know), a Scorpion (JT, for those in the Know), and a Dragon player that was almost not present in the game or the previous multi. Like, he had to be convinced to ally on an attack when he risked nothing and would straighten the following turn. "JT's playing an obnoxious Scorpion deck, we should kill him" and "Trevor's playing an honor runner, we should kill him" were observed early on. I managed to stay alive long enough to hit 40, but my final card was, <drumroll> Torrential Rain. It nicely complemented my "Draw a 13G personality on the first turn every game" strategy. But hey, it was my first tournament since New Year's, involved several fun moments and 13G ass-whoopers. Geek quotient: fulfilled.
A week of sleep dep. made me k-tired, so I tried to go to bed at 8:30 (pm!). That failed, so I got up and did stuff on the computer, went back to bed around 12:30. That failed. I got up at, maybe, 1:30, did stuff, went to bed at, say, 2, and fell asleep at 3. Smeg. Fortunately Matt and I weren't leading a hike up Haystack on Sunday.
This evening I played football with several of my residents, something else I haven't done in too long. Appearantly, I can still make miracle catches, but the every day stuff is too hard. On my return, I ran into Jason Cook (not that you know nor care), who I hadn't seen in quite some time. He seems to be doing well and is social and fun as ever (odd traits for a geek). I may have to go to Mike's party on Saturday instead of showing Requiem for a Dream and It's A Wonderful Life back to back. Hmmmmm.
Let's see if I can fall asleep before 2:30, eh? And could my client not pretend that I'm posting this entry at the same time my last entry was posted? And arrange the moodsin alphabetical order?
