Tough Ideas
So, when I'm tired, I have some strange ideas. Other people can't understand them too well. But I think it has potential.
Flwyd: GenCon needs a nostalgia tournament. Build a classic deck which runs under the rules extant at the time the latest card in the deck was printed.
Colson: I think 30/30 open is the best you'll get
Flwyd: No, this includes MRPs.
Flwyd: And if you use newer cards, you have to have 40/40.
Flwyd: "No, but my deck is circa Osugi not being unique!"
Juma_ma: no mrp is crap we'd have feta again
Flwyd: Yeah, but it'd have to be 40/40 and couldn't use anything from the Gold arc.
Shoji: 30/30 corrupt spirit
Colson: cpt spitit with 5 ogons
Flwyd: Spirit wouldn't get to play 30/30
Neverborn: 30/30 FORD
Flwyd: Are you people not understanding the format design?
Flwyd: If you use card printed after Jade, you build 40/40
Flwyd: And k-lots of Ogon requires not using anything after FK.
Flwyd: This is more complex than a "no mrp" format. This is a "Play with the MRPs that were around when the most recent card in your deck was first printed."
Neverborn: Flwyd: ... Are you making this up, or is that really the format for MM 2k2
Flwyd: Flwyd: GenCon needs a nostalgia tournament.
Flwyd: "Needs" implies that it isn't planned.
Colson: Flwyd: try judging a 100 player tourney where the rules vary from player to player
Flwyd: Colson: Fun!
Flwyd: Heh. You also get the Winds if you use anything from Gold and beyond.
Juma_ma: so if a player playing very recnet cards gets osugi out( counting as unique) and a player playing only pre-jade cards has a non unique osugi ina province what happnes?
Flwyd: You can bring a nonunique copy of a personality into play regardless of the presence of uniqueness.
PugMajere: Flwyd: but it's Osugi.
Flwyd: Just like you can buy a nonexp Kamoko even though there's an exp one around.
Juma_ma: osugi is both unique and non unique at the same time
Flwyd: Pug: are you paying attention to my whack format?
PugMajere: Flwyd: would you really ignore MRPs?
Flwyd: Osugi's not unique in my deck, because I have nothing post-TOTV
PugMajere: Flwyd: hmm, good luck finding judges for that tournament. :)
Flwyd: This is a tournament for obsessivist massochists like myself.
Colson: so newer player have know Idea about the rules there oponents are playing by? thats fair
Flwyd: Most folks who would play in this would have my obscurefactmemoryskillz
PugMajere: Flwyd: the funny part is that you could have cards that had rulings reversed 3-4 times, played 3-4 different ways.
Flwyd: You don't play in a NOSTALGIA TOURNAMENT if you're a newbie.
PugMajere: and no way to verify that it was valid, because we only keep the *current* ruling around.
Flwyd: Just like you don't go to retro disco parties if you were born in '85.
Colson: smacks of discrimination
Flwyd: I have a rulebook for every expansion until gold lying around.
Neverborn: Flwyd: I'd go to a nostalgia tournament, and I'm a newbie =/
PugMajere: Flwyd: but that doesn't do any good for rulings.
Flwyd: And quix has the ultimate goal of having every version of every card in Natsune.
Juma_ma: you'd have to have many *discretionary* rulings, unless you have a photogrphic memory and knowledge of every ruling ever and what time it was in effect "what was the current ruling durring jade edition?" for example
Flwyd: You just need some oldtimers around who are willing to stick to their guns when remembering the way things used to be.
Flwyd: Besides, part of nostalgia is selective memory.
Juma_ma: you could have gold edition counterattacks, and be able to attack before rallying cry comes into effect
Colson: yes inacurate judging sound fun
Flwyd: Juma: I could probably pull that off up to about DJH.
Flwyd: It's nostalgia!
Juma_ma: hah hah! I'm using a GE counterattack, you cna't defend!
Flwyd: You don't lose points if your disco clothes are made out of fabric from '87.
PugMajere: Juma: What if I ahve an IE Rallying Cry?
Juma_ma: I'm using winter warefare using only cards upto fire andd shadow, you have no clue what the hell happens at any time!!!
Flwyd: Players also need to be fairly responsible about knowing the rulings that apply to their own decks.
Flwyd: But that's true in any tournament.
