This could be told from the perspective of "either" character.
The protagonist of the present anticipates doing something undesirable in the future. The today's protagonist therefore sets up a blackmail scheme on the protagonist of the future, preventing All Tomorrow's Protagonist from indavisable action for fear of worse consequences.
