You answered your own question in this without realizing it. In order to achieve profits, most US news entities cut back their foreign news bureaus drastically. I think NPR probably has the most remaining foreign news bureaus. If you look, we have very little news about places outside of the US now. The big foreign news stories today were the Ang San Suu Kyi thing and the British people being released by Somali pirates. Did anything else happen anywhere in the world? If so, was any of it picked up by any of our 24 hour "news" sources.
